Rig Welder
A Rig Welder will earn in the region of US$62,000 per annum. Welder are employed either as permanent on-rig welders or as part of a welding squad that move around on a contract basis and generally are employed for larger jobs. It is vital to have a qualification in order to be employed as an oil rig welder.
Qualifications required for this position include

Extensive welding experience with the following accreditation:-
• In the United Kingdom, many of the oil companies will insist on a CITB ‘6GR’ certification.
• In the US, your accreditation only lasts for six months unless you receive it through an AWS facility.
• First aid
• Helicopter underwater escape training
• Offshore survival training

Welding position are still considered to be entry level position, so it is possible to find work on a rig in this position even if you have never worked on oil rigs before. It is, however, a very demanding and dangerous job and is not suited to many people.

I have been looking for a welders position offshore as well. I started offshore in 2008 and was employed until mid 2009. The company i worked for had a massive layoff. Fortunately, i was one of the last 75 to get the list. It should be helpful if someone could tell me how to statr back to work.
